I cannot believe that this is the first time that I have visited this game reserve! On our first day we spotted three cheetah still busy devouring a Springbok -- it was a bit far for taking good photo's, but still close enough to fill the lenses of my new Canon binoculars! How glad I was about that purchase! We encountered lion almost every day, and some days more than once. The first night we stayed in Rooiputs camp on the Botswana side. To Lauren's horror, there was no fence around the campsite. She was very quick to point out the fact that we had encountered the biggest male lion ever, right next to the road, not more than an hour before reaching the camp site. I quickly reminded her that the pride had just finished off a Gemsbok for dinner and that they wouldn't be interested in her scrawny body! (the male was still trying to force down the last bit of Gemsbok down his throat when we came across them) -- this didn't seem to calm her fears though! The camp site itself only consisted of a couple of wide spread A-frame structures and a couple of long-drops -- you could not see your neighbouring campers. I was forced to quickly make a fire to braai our lamb chops ...
